FAQ

What is giclee?

Giclee is is a French term meaning “to spray”, referring to how an inkjet printer works and how giclee prints are usually produced. They are printed using large format inkjet printers that use small spraying devices that can both match color and apply ink precisely, giving artists a high-quality print of their original art. To be giclee it must be high resolution, printed in archival pigment-based inks, on archival paper by a large model printer so it can have a larger range of colors.

Production

For prints going to US customers, all of my prints are made in-house by ME! For prints going to International customers, they will be printed by Giclee Today, a company that meets the same high standards for Giclee quality as my in-house prints.

Sizes + borders

For US prints, all sizes by default have an extra 1/4” border outside of the print (e.g., a 8” x 10” print will be on a 8.25” x 10.25” sheet), so you can add matting without losing any of the picture. If you would like to request a different size border, please leave a comment while Checking out.

For International prints, the border options for Paper are 1/2”-1”. For Canvas, prints smaller than 11x14” will have a 1.5” border, and 11x14 or larger will have a 2” outer border unless specially requested.

Materials

US orders:

For paper, I use Moab Entrada Bright White paper. 290 gsm. Entrada is an archival acid- and lignin-free paper that when used with archival inks, the prints last basically forever! It’s bright with a smooth texture and I love it. If you’d like a sample, just let me know!

For Canvas, I use Epson Exhibition Matte Canvas. It’s 395 g/m2 media weight and a 23.0 mil thickness, elastic polymer coating that resists cracking. It is a Heavyweight paper cotton-poly blend with a non-reflective surface.

International orders:

Giclee Today: They use high quality archival poly-cotton canvas, archival inks and hand applied UV resistant coatings. For paper, I order Moab Entrada Bright. All of their materials meet or exceed the standards set forth by the Fine Art Trade Guild for pH and light-fastness. Everything is printed coated and hand stretched in house.
