A Mountain Drive

We leave our worries at home

And decide instead, to go for a drive.

Anticipation traded for doubts

As the sun shines high in the valley

Up winding roads and dirt potholes

We race between dried bushes and trees

Tears exchanged for laughter, wonder

You lift me up and let me breathe.

We remember why

we love each other, instantly.

The smoke clears and the sun settles

To make its bed behind the hills

And we breathe in

the colors of beauty, found.

A few others pass by, but the city is silent

From each path we wander up

Dried flowers waver in the wind

And from the rocks

Weighs in perspective

That what we need is

Not to escape, but to settle in.
